Born in Abu Dhabi, Hussain Sajwani seemed destined for a profitable career as a contracts manager in the oil and gas industry of the Middle East after completing his studies at the University of Washington. However, Hussain Sajwani was not content to simply live a life working for the benefit of a major corporation; instead, the entrepreneurial bug struck the founder and Chair of DAMAC Properties prompting him to explore the catering and real estate industries. Initially finding success as a catering services provider, Hussain Sajwani soon branched out into the purchase and construction of mid-market hotels for citizens of the former Soviet Union following the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Now a partner of U.S. President Donald Trump, the Hussain Sajwani family are now regular visitors to the Florida home of the Commander-in-Chief and were praised for their business skills during a 2016 New Year’s Eve dinner celebrating the election of Trump. In 2002, Hussain Sajwani took advantage of a new real estate policy in the UAE allowing foreign nationals access to the real estate industry in Dubai to construct a series of luxury developments. In a bid to enter the luxury real estate market in Dubai, Hussain Sajwani purchased a piece of land in an area yet to be developed and planned a 38-story development with all units sold by the fledgling company before construction began. Luxury developments have continued to be created by Hussain Sajwani as he successfully navigated the 2008 real estate crash to remain in profit and build his $5 billion fortune.
Both Hussain Sajwani and his company have become major contributors to many different philanthropic causes in and around the United Arab Emirates. One such cause is that developed by the royal family of the nation to provide new clothing and food for children who are living in low-income families who do not benefit from the work completed by business people such as Hussain Sajwani.
