There are a number of companies that have started from very humble beginnings, and these companies fall under every category of service. OSI Industries is no exception to the rule as this food supplier started out as being a neighborhood meat supplier in Oak Park, Illinois. During its early days, OSI Industries was known as Otto & Sons. This particular meat supplier had huge ambition as well as huge goals. At the turn of the 20th century, Otto & Sons solidified its greatness, which would result in mega success. As the company began to grow, it would move to a new facility in Maywood, Illinois. Food wholesale was its new game plan, and the company’s trajectory skyrocketed.
Ray Kroc, the former president of McDonald’s, became a huge fan of OSI’s meat products. Krock would strike a deal with the Kolschowski brothers to become one of the hamburger chain’s main meat suppliers. When cryogenics came alone in the 1960s, OSI’s growth would expand even more. The meats and other foods could travel for longer distances without ever spoiling thanks to cryogenics. This new flash-freeze technology was heaven sent to a certain degree. In 1975, Otto & Sons transformed into OSI Industries. The Kolschowski family was now ready to move into retirement so they brought in some new leaders to control the business. Sheldon Lavin, a finance guru, took over the CEO role in the late 1970s, and he has used his experience in finance to make crucial business deals.
Since Lavin has taken over the leadership position, OSI Industries has acquired numerous businesses that were similar to OSI. The company purchased Tyson Foods’ Chicago-based plant for more than $7 million. This 200,000-square-foot facility would be in close proximity to other OSI facilities, which would help the company strengthen its foundation even more.
